Detroit, CC of
Country Club of Detroit: partly tree-lined and partly-open, this top-quality parkland layout gains its reputation and renown courtesy of three English course designers: Harry Colt, Charles Hugh Alison and Robert Trent Jones Snr. Providing their separate inputs over the years, they've ensured a wonderfully absorbing test of golf here at Grosse Pointe Farms ... just a stone's throw from the shoreline of Lake St Clair.
The generously spaced holes are laid out over flattish terrain. Each quietly sidles past stylish bunkering en route to small, well-defended, circular greens. Although lacking water hazards and elevation changes, this Detroit gem has plenty up its sleeve to thoroughly test all facets of your game ... not least straight hitting from the tee and deft approach play.
Limited access: this private course is generally playable only by members and their invited guests.
Private club; visitors/guests may only play if hosted by a member.
CC of Detroit has one of the largest caddie programs in the US.

Separated by just two years in their founding years, but 15 miles in distance, the Country Club of Detroit (1897) and 36-hole Detroit Golf Club (1899) are two amongst a revered group of historic private golf clubs in the Detroit area. Oakland Hills (1916) and Franklin Hills (1927) are also amongst this elite.
At the Country Club of Detroit, Arnold Palmer picked-up his first and only US Amateur title in 1954, while Robert Gardner landed the same title here in 1915.
Women’s (British) Open: the last women’s major championship of the season is hosted by Royal Porthcawl GC. It’s the first time this fabulous seaside links course has hosted the event (July 31-Aug 3).
Walker Cup: the 50th playing of this prestigious men’s amateur event sees the GB&I go head-to-head against the defending USA team at Cypress Point Club, California (Sept 6-7).
After that, all eyes turn to Bethpage State Park on Long Island, NY, where the American and defending European professional teams engage in the 45th Ryder Cup (Sept 27-29).
Lottie Woad: 21-year-old Woad burst onto the professional scene in July, with wins in the Women’s Irish Open (as an amateur) and three weeks later in the Women’s Scottish Open (as a professional). She nearly picked-up a major championship, placing third in The Evian in the same month.
Pádraig Harrington: the ever-likeable Irishman added the (British) Senior Open Championship title to his stellar array of tournament successes. His win came on Sunningdale’s spectacular Old Course. Harrington had already bagged the U.S. Senior Open title in June this year.
