Indiana University (Pfau Course)

4-PLUS: Must play course - excellent standard; worthy of 4½ stars.

Est. 1957

The Pfau Course at Indiana University was built on an expansive 265-acre site on the northeast side of Bloomington. Previously this property was home to the IU's former championship golf course, as well as a par-3 course, and the university's cross-country running course.

Steve Smyer's design takes you out into pristine woodland and open natural spaces. The well-spaced holes are often exuberantly bunker-defended as you play towards the distinctively rectangular and triangular greens.

Did you know?

The course at Indiana University takes its name from Norman Edward “Ned” Pfau, Jr., a 1965 graduate. His wife Sue, who graduated from Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), was also an avid supporter and advocate for the state’s flagship university.

The sports teams of Indiana University are known as the "Hoosiers", the colloquial term for people from the state of Indiana. Co-designer Fuzzy Zoeller is a "Hoosier", by dint of being born in New Albany, Indiana.

Who's Who

Lottie Woad: 21-year-old Woad burst onto the professional scene in July, with wins in the Women’s Irish Open (as an amateur) and three weeks later in the Women’s Scottish Open (as a professional). She nearly picked-up a major championship, placing third in The Evian in the same month.

Pádraig Harrington: the ever-likeable Irishman added the (British) Senior Open Championship title to his stellar array of tournament successes. His win came on Sunningdale’s spectacular Old Course. Harrington had already bagged the U.S. Senior Open title in June this year.
