Marquette Golf Club (Greywalls course)

4-PLUS: Must play course - excellent standard; worthy of 4½ stars.

Est. 1926

You will find Marquette Golf Club nestling in the highlands surrounding the city of the same name. It is Upper Michigan's only 36-hole golf facility. Opened in 1926, this semi-private club includes the original Heritage course, designed by William Langford and later expanded by David Gill. A more recent addition is the nationally-ranked Greywalls layout, designed by Mike DeVries.

Both Greywalls and Heritage are well-rated and always popular golf courses, with the higher accolades usually going to Greywalls. These tree-lined and open parkland layouts should not disappoint, with many attractive features and several excellent holes to enjoy. Definitely to be included on your play list if you are in the area.

Did you know?

The Heritage's original nine-holes were designed by William B. Langford and his partner Theodore J. Moreau. Langford was born in 1887 in Austin, Illinois. He suffered from polio as a child and took up golf as part of a rehabilitation program. He went on to represent Yale University in three NCAA championship golf teams from 1906-1908, and became a golf course architect after studying Mining Engineering at Columbia University.

Langford and his partner Moreau designed over 250 courses, including Lawsonia Links in Green Lake, WI, and Skokie Country Club in IL.
