Karsten Creek Golf Club

5-star: Fabulous – courses don’t get much better than this.

Est. 1994

Karsten Creek Golf Club, home to the Oklahoma State University golf teams, is a course that's generally regarded as one of the top three collegiate layouts in America. This excellent Tom Fazio design contains a wealth of wonderfully crafted, memorable and challenging holes laid out in a wooded parkland and lakeside environment.

The generally good-width fairways were cut from a forest of oaks and black jack trees, handsomely complementing the undulating terrain that flows through the course. There's plenty of elevation change to be factored into your shot-making and, in typical Fazio fashion, stylish bunkering to be avoided. Rocky outcrops also put in occasional appearances.

After the front-nine loop, which plays counter-clockwise through a wonderfully natural and quiet forested setting, the back-nine loop cascades around the 110-acre Lake Louise. The lake features most strongly on the closing stretch.

Pick of the holes: the long par-3 7th played to an elevated and well-bunker defended "Redan-style" green, takes some beating. So too the par-4 17th and par-5 18th, both played over and then alongside Lake Louise. All three holes, and others beside, can potentially shoot some nasty holes in your score.

Did you know?

Karsten Creek is home to Oklahoma State University's mens and womens golf teams (the Cowboys and Cowgirls).

In the 1970s Mike Holder (former OSU Head Golf Coach) envisioned a sanctuary for college golf. After many years of planning and fundraising, the Tom Fazio-designed Karsten Creek course opened in 1994.

The course was named in honour of the late Karsten Solheim, founder of Karsten Manufacturing (PING), and Lake Louise is named in honour of his wife. The Solheims' support of OSU golf over the years was instrumental in the success of the University's golf program.

Published ranking

Oklahoma's 3rd best course (Golf Digest, 2023/24).

Lottie Woad: 21-year-old Woad burst onto the professional scene in July, with wins in the Women’s Irish Open (as an amateur) and three weeks later in the Women’s Scottish Open (as a professional). She nearly picked-up a major championship, placing third in The Evian in the same month.

Pádraig Harrington: the ever-likeable Irishman added the (British) Senior Open Championship title to his stellar array of tournament successes. His win came on Sunningdale’s spectacular Old Course. Harrington had already bagged the U.S. Senior Open title in June this year.
