Mirimichi
Mirimichi Golf Course: Justin Timberlake clearly held an ambition to create a top-quality, public-access golf facility in his home-town of Memphis. The vision was realised with his 2008 acquisition and transformation of the Big Creek Golf Course. Located just a few miles north of downtown Memphis, the completely redesigned course, renamed as Mirimichi, opened in 2009 to the delight of visiting golfers.
Since opening as Mirimichi, a number of factors, including the 2011 Mississippi River flood, and Timberlake's sale of the property in 2015, have impacted what was once the "talk of the town". Mirimich now exudes a more humble persona, with a much more affordable green fee than in its heyday.
The main course, complemented by a large practice area and testing nine-hole course, still makes full use of the gently rolling terrain, swathes of native grass, and several water features.
Among many excellent holes, the par-4 10th, played from an elevated tee is one of the most memorable. The fairway, like most others, is wide enough not to be intimidating, but only a well-executed approach will get you pin-high on the 80 yard front-to-back green, which is a mere 15-yards wide. A menacing creek protects the front and right of this green.
The partly-open, partly tree-lined front-nine, laid out on flattish terrain, is home to gently rolling fairways and plenty of hole-defining mounds. The more undulating back-nine, also brings water into play on several holes, most dangerously at the par-3 11th, downhill par-3 14th and flanking the green on the dog-legging par-4 17th.
Most of the time this natural course is bounded by woodland; only on a small stretch of the back-nine will you see a house or two. Once the star golfing attraction in the home of the Blues, Mirimichi was definitely the place to put on your blue-suede golf shoes.

Mirimichi started life in 1965 as a William F. Mitchell design that was known as the Woodstock Hills Country Club; it was subsequently renamed as Big Creek Golf Course. After acquisition by Justin Timberlake and Lynn & Paul Harless, the course was redeveloped and opened for play as Mirimichi in 2009.
Mirimichi is a native Indian American word meaning "place of happy retreat."

Sony Open in Hawaii: played at Waialae Country Club near Honolulu, the Sony Open takes over the spotlight from The Sentry as the PGA Tour’s calendar-year opening event (Jan 15-18). The Sentry (not being played in 2026) was formerly known as the Tournament of Champions, with a field typically restricted to golfers who won a PGA Tour event in the previous calendar year.
Dubai Desert Classic: the DP World Tour’s first Rolex Series event of 2026, is contested for the 37th time (Jan 22-25). First won by Englishman Mark James in 1989, it now boasts a four-time winner, Rory McIlroy. Played on the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis course, this once desert-surrounded course is the long-time flagship for Golf in Dubai.
Our visit last month included two rounds at Golf de Chantilly, one of France’s most prestigious clubs.
It offers two superb layouts: Le Vineuil, a five-star championship course with a rich history, and Longères, an excellent four-star course that provides a strong and enjoyable test.
The wider Paris region offers plenty more. Courses such as Fontainebleau, Golf de Saint-Germain, and several other top-rated layouts make this area one of Europe’s most rewarding golf destinations, offering a mix of woodland, heathland, and parkland designs.
The Dutch: "It's no' just a game", as they say in Scotland, and that's certainly true at The Dutch. With 5-star services throughout, a lavishly comfortable Loch Lomond-inspired clubhouse, and a superbly designed and presented golf course, one could not ask for more from this top-end private club.
Join us at The Dutch from August 21–24 for the Festival of Golf, featuring the HotelPlanner Tour. Experience four days of top-tier sport, live music, incredible food, and unexpected surprises.
