The nearby town of Plymouth, Massachusetts was the site of one of America's first colonies. It was founded in 1620 by the Pilgrims who crossed the Atlantic from England in their ship, the Mayflower.
Plymouth is the oldest municipality in New England and one of the oldest in the United States. A fabulous attraction in Plymouth is the Mayflower II, a full-size replica of the 17th century ship, which is open to the public and well worth a visit.
