Friar's Head
Friar's Head Golf Course is one of the top-rated and finest championship layouts in the United States. The excellent duneland, links course, laid out by the incomparable design duo of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, contains a wealth of wonderfully crafted and challenging holes.
In its open links-style setting, pot bunkers and large sandy waste areas play their full part in proceedings. The par-4 15th brings you down to the Long Island seashore, with the par-4 16th, par-3 17th and doglegging par-4 18th also played close to the Sound. A wonderfully natural seaside links that will thoroughly test your all-round game.
Limited access: this private course is generally playable only by members and their invited guests.
Private club; visitors/guests may only play if hosted by a member.
Non-metal spike facility. Friar's Head is a walking course; golf cart usage only with permission of Golf Professional. Caddies required by all players.
Excellent
The term Friar's Head comes from a nearby sand formation. Sailors thought the formation bore a resemblance to a Friar's head when it was approached from the sea.
Just a couple of hundred yards west of Friar's Head is another private golf club, the Baiting Hollow Club, which is home to a course designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr.
New York state's 5th best course (Golf Digest, 2023/24).
USA's 15th best course (Golf Digest, 2023).
