Danang GC (Norman)
The Norman course at Da Nang Golf Club, comprising the Dune and Ocean nines, is located on Vietnam's central coast, just south of the city of Danang. It was joined in 2020 by Danang GC's Nicklaus course, which lies to the west, alongside the Coco River. Directly to the south is the Montgomerie Links.
As the names of the two nine-hole loops imply, the course is a predominantly open layout, sculpted in the grand links tradition. Blown-out bunkers, firm and fast fairways, wild seaside vegetation, rugged dunes and waste areas, swales and hollows, and plantings of pine, all feature strongly in Norman's testing design. Wind can be a major factor on this stretch of the central coast, helping to tighten up the course and put added pressure on your shot-making. As if a Greg Norman design needed any tightening-up!
Most of the time you are tucked in behind a residential development of smart villas, which separate the course from the sea ... thankfully the homes don't detract from the expansive look or playability of the course itself.
Pick of the holes: at the par-4 15th the layout makes a brief bolt for the beach. You're rewarded with the beachfront short par-3 16th overlooking the East Vietnam Sea. But all too quickly its back inland along the par-4 17th (trisected by two small rivers), and the end of the layout's brief encounter with the seashore.

Excellent
Roughly in the centre of Vietnam's eastern seaboard, looking out onto the East Vietnam Sea, you'll find the country's fifth largest city, Da Nang. Within a short drive from the city is a growing and impressive hub of "links" golf courses.
Amongst their number, and in the vicinity of the town of Hoi An (south of Da Nang) are: Danang GC (Nicklaus and Norman courses), Montgomerie Links (by Monty), Vinpearl Nam Hoi An (IMG Design), and Hoiana Shores (RTJ Jr). Just north of Da Nang is the Nick Faldo designed Laguna Lang Co.
Heading inland, and on the way to a "must visit" French-themed mountain village, is the "must play" Ba Na Hills layout by Luke Donald.
Vietnam's best courses (Golf Digest, 2022):
Danang's Norman course ranked 2nd best; Nicklaus course ranked 6th best.

Sony Open in Hawaii: played at Waialae Country Club near Honolulu, the Sony Open takes over the spotlight from The Sentry as the PGA Tour’s calendar-year opening event (Jan 15-18). The Sentry (not being played in 2026) was formerly known as the Tournament of Champions, with a field typically restricted to golfers who won a PGA Tour event in the previous calendar year.
Dubai Desert Classic: the DP World Tour’s first Rolex Series event of 2026, is contested for the 37th time (Jan 22-25). First won by Englishman Mark James in 1989, it now boasts a four-time winner, Rory McIlroy. Played on the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis course, this once desert-surrounded course is the long-time flagship for Golf in Dubai.
Our visit last month included two rounds at Golf de Chantilly, one of France’s most prestigious clubs.
It offers two superb layouts: Le Vineuil, a five-star championship course with a rich history, and Longères, an excellent four-star course that provides a strong and enjoyable test.
The wider Paris region offers plenty more. Courses such as Fontainebleau, Golf de Saint-Germain, and several other top-rated layouts make this area one of Europe’s most rewarding golf destinations, offering a mix of woodland, heathland, and parkland designs.
The Dutch: "It's no' just a game", as they say in Scotland, and that's certainly true at The Dutch. With 5-star services throughout, a lavishly comfortable Loch Lomond-inspired clubhouse, and a superbly designed and presented golf course, one could not ask for more from this top-end private club.
Join us at The Dutch from August 21–24 for the Festival of Golf, featuring the HotelPlanner Tour. Experience four days of top-tier sport, live music, incredible food, and unexpected surprises.
