Bull Bay Golf Club: set back a couple of hundred yards from the sea, the expansive out-and-back layout here at Bull Bay contains all the fun and challenge you'd want from a terrific seaside links course. Like many a coastal links, you'll enjoy wonderful sea and inland views as you journey round this testing and well-presented championship course.
With its mix of straightaway and dog-legging holes, the ever-undulating terrain doesn't, as you might expect, feature classic links-style sand dunes. In their place, the rolling landscape of pristine, crisp-turf fairways is punctuated by rocky outcrops, and sizeable ridges and hollows. Gorse bushes are also much in evidence, and on a few holes, pine trees. Except for the downhill par-3 12th (Bryn Teg) and the closing par-4 18th (Teg Edrych), the "business-end" of virtually all the holes is played uphill to elevated greens.
There's no water hazards to worry about here, and only one or two relatively small revetted bunkers that defend each of the excellent greens. Renowned designer Herbert Fowler knew that the layout's inherent and constant elevation changes, and frequent windy conditions hereabouts, was defence enough for this testing layout. He also had no qualms in asking the golfer to take on a range of blind tee and approach shots, with a few significant carries from the teen the mix .
Pick of the holes: the par-4 9th (Dyffryn) is a perfect exemplar for Bull Bay. Played from an elevated tee, the hole doglegs from right-to-left as it wriggles past rocky outcrops and gorse bushes, en route to an elevated green. Also worth a special mentioned is the par-3 16th (Yr Ynys). The clubhouse and Bull Bay beyond, give this hole its impressively scenic backdrop.

Clwb Golff Porth Llechog (in English, Bull Bay Golf Club) is located in the village of Amlwch, pronounced "Am-loch". The club motto is “Her Deg ar Hen Dir”, meaning an honest challenge on ancient land ... which is spot on!
The golf course here at Bull Bay was laid out by Herbert Fowler (renowned designer of Walton Heath GC), on the land of, and financed by Charles Paget, the 6th Marquess of Anglesey. The Marquess also commissioned Fowler to design another of course, on another of his estates, the highly-regarded Beau Desert GC in Staffordshire.

Sony Open in Hawaii: played at Waialae Country Club near Honolulu, the Sony Open takes over the spotlight from The Sentry as the PGA Tour’s calendar-year opening event (Jan 15-18). The Sentry (not being played in 2026) was formerly known as the Tournament of Champions, with a field typically restricted to golfers who won a PGA Tour event in the previous calendar year.
Dubai Desert Classic: the DP World Tour’s first Rolex Series event of 2026, is contested for the 37th time (Jan 22-25). First won by Englishman Mark James in 1989, it now boasts a four-time winner, Rory McIlroy. Played on the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis course, this once desert-surrounded course is the long-time flagship for Golf in Dubai.

It offers two superb layouts: Le Vineuil, a five-star championship course with a rich history, and Longères, an excellent four-star course that provides a strong and enjoyable test.
The wider Paris region offers plenty more. Courses such as Fontainebleau, Golf de Saint-Germain, and several other top-rated layouts make this area one of Europe’s most rewarding golf destinations, offering a mix of woodland, heathland, and parkland designs.
The Dutch: "It's no' just a game", as they say in Scotland, and that's certainly true at The Dutch. With 5-star services throughout, a lavishly comfortable Loch Lomond-inspired clubhouse, and a superbly designed and presented golf course, one could not ask for more from this top-end private club.
