Leave the M4 motorway at exit 24. At roundabout just off motorway take the A48, direction Newport. After 200 metres turn right into Celtic Manor Resort.
Celtic Manor Resort (Roman Road course): The Roman Road course at Celtic Manor is an excellent and challenging resort style layout, and one that is well acquainted with hosting top-level tournaments. This became the venue for the European Tour's Wales Open, when the flagship Wentwood Hills course was being transformed into the acclaimed Twenty Ten Ryder Cup layout. For professionals and amateurs alike, significant elevation changes and undulations are the most critical "course management" factor in the Roman Road's challenging make-up.
Although most parts of the layout are relatively open (with one or two more heavily tree-lined exceptions), your drives will need to be accurate to hit the often tightish fairways. The double doglegging par-5 3rd presents one of the tighter and more tree-lined drives you'll face.
In addition to plenty of elevation change, the layout's defences also comprise a wealth of fairway and greenside bunkering, as well as lush grassy rough from which balls may not reappear. The defences are further reinforced by good-size, but not overly large greens that require accurate approach work to put you safely on the "dance-floor."
Stunning views are provided from many of Roman Road's holes. On the closing stretch you look across the Usk valley to the town of Caerleon, which was formerly a fortressed Roman settlement known as Isca. The city of Newport, the Bristol Channel and Severn Bridge are also in view at different times, and the early holes on the back-nine bring you alongside Celtic Manor's impressively imposing resort hotel.

Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr, the Roman Road course was the first of the Celtic Manor courses to open. It is criss-crossed by several sections of old roman road that run through the layout.
Celtic Manor's Twenty Ten, Roman Road and former Wentwood Hills courses have hosted many top-level tournaments, not least the Ryder Cup and Wales Open; view Top Golf Tournaments at Celtic Manor, Twenty Ten course.
Celtic Manor is home to the Welsh Golfing Union.

Sony Open in Hawaii: played at Waialae Country Club near Honolulu, the Sony Open takes over the spotlight from The Sentry as the PGA Tour’s calendar-year opening event (Jan 15-18). The Sentry (not being played in 2026) was formerly known as the Tournament of Champions, with a field typically restricted to golfers who won a PGA Tour event in the previous calendar year.
Dubai Desert Classic: the DP World Tour’s first Rolex Series event of 2026, is contested for the 37th time (Jan 22-25). First won by Englishman Mark James in 1989, it now boasts a four-time winner, Rory McIlroy. Played on the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis course, this once desert-surrounded course is the long-time flagship for Golf in Dubai.
Our visit last month included two rounds at Golf de Chantilly, one of France’s most prestigious clubs.
It offers two superb layouts: Le Vineuil, a five-star championship course with a rich history, and Longères, an excellent four-star course that provides a strong and enjoyable test.
The wider Paris region offers plenty more. Courses such as Fontainebleau, Golf de Saint-Germain, and several other top-rated layouts make this area one of Europe’s most rewarding golf destinations, offering a mix of woodland, heathland, and parkland designs.

Here at Prince’s Golf Club you'll find 27 excellent holes of links golf. Just over the fence and sharing similar terrain is Royal St George’s; but Prince’s is far from overshadowed by its venerable neighbour. The three nine-hole loops at Prince's, laid out over gently undulating terrain, are sure to bring a smile of satisfaction to all lovers of links golf.
