Robertson was born in Sarnia, Ontario, a small town on Lake Huron and the St Clair River; across the river sits the state of Michigan, USA. After an illustrious amateur career, crowned by representing GB&I in the 1993 Walker Cup, Robertson turned professional and qualified for the European Tour in 1994. He played on the Tour until 2007, recording one victory along the way.
