Did you know?

A former president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects, Hurdzan achieved the "triple crown" of golf course architecture awards: the Old Tom Morris Award (from American Golf Course Superintendents), the Donald Ross Award (from American Golf Course Architects) and the Don A. Rossi Award (from American Golf Course Builders). The only other course designers honoured with this "triple crown" are: Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Byron Nelson, Robert Trent Jones Sr, Rees Jones and Pete Dye.

In his formative years as a golf course architect, Hurdzan was much influenced by two noted designers, Jack Kidwell and Geoff Cornish. Hurdzan became Kidwell's partner in golf course design, and subsequently took over the business from Kidwell.

In 1988 the firm of Hurdzan Design welcomed Dana Fry to the team. Fry was an accomplished amateur golfer, and had spent five years developing and shaping his skills with Tom Fazio at Fazio Design. Fry became a full partner with Hurdzan in 1997. Their partnership continued until 2012, when Fry and Jason Straka (a Hurdzan/Fry lead designer) set-up their own firm, Fry/Straka Design.

In addition to his partner Dana Fry and lead designer Jason Straka, other notable designers who worked for Hurdzan Design and/or Hurdzan/Fry Design include: David Whelchel (1990-2010).
