Did you know?

Rees Jones was born into the game of golf, and into a great golfing family. His father Robert Trent Jones (son of William Rees Jones) was the greatest golf course architect of his generation, and his older brother Robert Jr has also enjoyed huge acclaim as a designer.

Rees Jones learned to play golf as a youngster, competing as a junior, while in college and in the army. He grew up travelling with his family to golf courses all over the world and worked in the summers with his father. After college at Yale and graduate studies at Harvard, he went to work in 1964 as a principal in Robert Trent Jones, Inc. Ten years later in 1974, he founded his own design firm, Rees Jones, Inc., headquartered in his hometown of Montclair, New Jersey.

During his career designing and redesigning more than 170 golf courses, Jones has earned the nickname "The Open Doctor." His remodelling skills have been applied to seven U.S. Open venues, seven PGA Championship courses, four Ryder Cup and two Walker Cup sites as well as the President's Cup at Royal Montreal. Several of his redesigned courses have been selected as FedEx Championship sites including East Lake GC, the permanent site of the PGA TOUR's Tour Championship.
