Six-foot four-inch (1.93 m) Finau could have played top-flight college basketball, but choose instead to sign-up to golf's professional ranks at the age of 17. He honed his skills on various mini-tours before moving onto the Web.com tour in 2015, and a year later the full PGA Tour.
His first PGA Tour win came after a playoff at the Puerto Rico Open in 2016. An excellent run of form in the 2018 majors and in the FedEx Cup playoff events saw Finau rewarded with a Captain's Pick for the USA Ryder Cup team.

Played as The Northern Trust (Aug 19-22; first of three FedExCup playoff events). Tony Finau (USA) beat Cameron Smith (Aus) with a par at the first playoff hole (par-4 18th). Finau recorded his second PGA Tour win, coming 5 years and 142 tournaments after the first. Monday finish required (without spectators) following significant storm delays on the Sunday. Played as the Puerto Rico Open (March 24-27). 26-year-old Tony Finau (USA) beat Steve Marino (USA) with a birdie at the third playoff hole (par-5 18th), to record his first PGA Tour win. [Championship course, Grand Reserve GC, Rio Grande, Puerto Rico; at the time known as Coco Beach G&CC].

PGA Championship: the year’s second men’s major championship is hosted by Southern Hills CC, Tulsa, Oklahoma, amidst doubt as to whether reigning champion Phil Mickelson will defend his title (May 19-22).
Soudal Open: Belgium’s return to European Tour golf sees 36-hole Rinkven International GC host the Soudal Open, the country’s national open championship (May 12-15).

Scottie Scheffler: bags the 2022 Masters Tournament title, and with it a fourth win in six starts on the PGA Tour and his first major championship victory.
