WinstonGolf (Links course)

4+ (4 gold): one of our top-rated 4-star courses, worthy of 4½ stars.
   WinstonGolf (Links course) Est. 2011

Where2Golf says:

The Links course at WINSTONgolf: Set a few kilometres east of the Schweriner See (a large natural lake), here at WINSTONgolf you will find two excellent 18-hole courses and the Kranich (crane) 9-hole par-3 course. The David Krause designed Links course typically steals top honours, but don't ignore the also enjoyable and testing 18-hole Open course.

Hailed as one of the best new golf courses in northwestern Europe when it opened in 2011, WINSTONlinks is a big dimension golf course, modelled on British seaside layouts. Routinely putting the game's top professionals to the test, this open links-style design lays down a tough test for your all-round game. Penal rough, natural sandy hollows, small brooks and towering dunes provide a classic links feel to proceedings. Fast-running gently undulating fairways, pot bunkers and hard fast greens add to the demand for well-thought out course management and good shot-making.

WINSTONlinks was created amongst the lakes, rivers and woodland of Mecklenburg. Notwithstanding the absence of a breezy stretch of Scottish coastline, this exciting layout, with its many excellent golf holes, delivers a thorough challenge on an excellent links-style design.

Tournaments:
Walker Cup: The USA scored a convincing 15.5-10.5 win over their GB&I opponents in the 47th Walker Cup at Royal Liverpool. The USA amateurs won all but two of the Sunday singles matches.
Solheim Cup:  can Europe’s top women professional golfers fair better at Gleneagles than they did in their 2017 Solheim Cup encounter with the USA. (Sept 13-15).
Who's Who:
Brian Barnes:  one of the most colourful Scottish golfers of the modern era sadly passed away. Few others can boast two matchplay wins against Jack Nicklaus … on the same day!
Steve Stricker:  three-time Ryder Cup player and 12-time PGA Tour winner, defends his PGA Tour Champions, Sanford International title at Minnehaha CC (Sept 20-22).
