The Curtis Cup (3rd). USA vs Gt Britain & Ireland. Eight top women amateurs per team competing in three foursomes and six singles. Result: USA 4.5, GB&I 4.5. Playing captain: Glenna Collett Vare (USA); non-playing captain: Doris Chambers (Eng/GB&I). [King's course, Gleneagles Hotel, Auchterarder, Perthshire].
WEDNESDAY SINGLES (six 18-hole matches; home player stated first): Wanda Morgan (Eng) lost to Glenna Collett Vare 3&2; Helen Holm (Scot) bt Patty Berg 4&3; Pam Barton (Eng) lost to Charlotte Glutting 1 hole; Maureen Crews (née Orcutt) bt Pat Walker (Ire) 1 hole; Jessie Anderson (Scot) bt Leona Cheney 1 hole; Marjorie Ross Garon (Eng) bt Opal Hill 7&5.
Bridget Newell (Eng), Phyllis Wade (Eng), Aniela Goldthwaite (USA) and Marion Miley (USA) did not play in any matches.
NOTE: With the match tied, the USA retained the Cup as holders. The whole event was completed in one day (Weds, May 6).

The Walker Cup (9th). USA vs Gt Britain & Ireland. Ten top amateurs per team competing in four foursomes and eight singles. Result: USA 9, GB&I 0; no points awarded for the three halved matches. Non-playing captains: Francis Ouimet (USA); Dr William "Bill" Tweddell (Eng/GB&I). [Pine Valley GC, Clementon, New Jersey].
THURSDAY SINGLES (eight 36-hole matches; home player stated first): Johnny Goodman bt Hector Thomson (Scot) 3&2; Albert W. "Scotty" Campbell bt Jack McLean (Scot) 5&4; Johnny Fischer bt Cecil Ewing (Ire) 8&7; Reynolds Smith bt G. Alex Hill (Eng) 11&9; Walter Emery bt Gordon Peters (Scot) 1 hole; Charlie Yates bt J. Harry Givan (USA) and George Voigt (USA) were not involved in the singles. Percy "Laddie" Lucas (Eng) and Bill Tweddell (GB capt, eligible to play) did not play in any of the matches.
NOTE: Although the GB team narrowly avoided being whitewashed in 1928, 1930, 1932 and 1934, their luck finally ran out at Pine Valley in 1936. Against all expectations they bounced back to win the next Walker Cup match in 1938 at St Andrews.
Sony Open in Hawaii: played at Waialae Country Club near Honolulu, the Sony Open takes over the spotlight from The Sentry as the PGA Tour’s calendar-year opening event (Jan 15-18). The Sentry (not being played in 2026) was formerly known as the Tournament of Champions, with a field typically restricted to golfers who won a PGA Tour event in the previous calendar year.
Dubai Desert Classic: the DP World Tour’s first Rolex Series event of 2026, is contested for the 37th time (Jan 22-25). First won by Englishman Mark James in 1989, it now boasts a four-time winner, Rory McIlroy. Played on the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis course, this once desert-surrounded course is the long-time flagship for Golf in Dubai.
Our visit last month included two rounds at Golf de Chantilly, one of France’s most prestigious clubs.
It offers two superb layouts: Le Vineuil, a five-star championship course with a rich history, and Longères, an excellent four-star course that provides a strong and enjoyable test.

Here at Prince’s Golf Club you'll find 27 excellent holes of links golf. Just over the fence and sharing similar terrain is Royal St George’s; but Prince’s is far from overshadowed by its venerable neighbour.
