Oosterhuis (Eng) recorded the season's lowest stroke average on the GB&I PGA Tour, with 70.50. Ramon Sota (Esp) was second with 71.14; Maurice Bembridge (Eng) was third with 71.59. Amongst those playing less than 40 rounds on the Tour, Roberto De Vicenzo (Arg) averaged 69.89 over 29 rounds; Tony Jacklin (Eng) 69.94 over 17 rounds, and David Graham (Aus) 70.11 over 18 rounds.

Trevino (USA) won his second straight PGA of America Vardon Trophy, recording the season's lowest scoring average on the PGA Tour.

Nicklaus (USA) won his fourth PGA Tour leading money winner, with 1971 season earnings of $244,490 on the Tour. Lee Trevino (USA) was second with $231,202; Arnold Palmer (USA) was third with $209,603.

Hsieh (Taiw) won the Asia Golf Circuit 1971 Order of Merit, accumulating the most pts from Asia's top professional events.

Oosterhuis (Eng) won the Harry Vardon Trophy as the British PGA Tour 1971 Order of Merit winner. Using a season-long points system, Oosterhuis accumulated 1292.5 pts; Neil Coles (Eng) was second with 1285.5 pts; Maurice Bembridge (Eng) was third with 1222.5 pts. Gary Player (RSA) topped the Tour's 1971 Prize Money List with £11,281; Neil Coles (Eng) was second with £10,479; Peter Oosterhuis (Eng) was third with £9,269.

Trevino (USA) won the PGA of America Player of the Year Award (based on points allocated for PGA Tour wins, money-list position and scoring average).

Llewellyn (Wales) won the British PGA 1971 Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year Award as the leading first-season tour player. Llewellyn finished 63rd on the Tour's (points-based) Order of Merit; he won £435 in prize money during the season.
Sony Open in Hawaii: played at Waialae Country Club near Honolulu, the Sony Open takes over the spotlight from The Sentry as the PGA Tour’s calendar-year opening event (Jan 15-18). The Sentry (not being played in 2026) was formerly known as the Tournament of Champions, with a field typically restricted to golfers who won a PGA Tour event in the previous calendar year.
Dubai Desert Classic: the DP World Tour’s first Rolex Series event of 2026, is contested for the 37th time (Jan 22-25). First won by Englishman Mark James in 1989, it now boasts a four-time winner, Rory McIlroy. Played on the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis course, this once desert-surrounded course is the long-time flagship for Golf in Dubai.
