The Masters Tournament (85th) (April 8-11). Second-placed and relatively unknown Will Zalatoris (USA) finished 1 shot behind 29-year-old Hideki Matsuyama (Jpn), who became the first Japanese professional golfer to win a men's major golf championship. [Augusta National GC, Augusta, GA].

The Open Championship (149th) (July 15-18). Second-placed Jordan Spieth (USA) finished 2 shots behind 24-year-old Collin Morikawa (USA), who became the first player since Bobby Jones (USA) in 1926 to win his first two majors after just eight starts in the majors. This was Morikawa's debut appearance in The Open; his first major title came in his first appearance in the US PGA Championship in 2020. [Royal St George's GC, Sandwich, Kent].

The US Open (121st) (Jun 17-20). Second-placed Louis Oosthuizen (RSA) finished 1 shot behind 26-year-old Jon Rahm (Esp), who recorded his first major championship win. In becoming the first Spaniard to lift the US Open trophy, Rahm also regained his place as the world's No.1 male golfer. [South course, Torrey Pines, La Jolla, CA].

The US PGA Championship (103rd) (May 20-23). Second-placed Louis Oosthuizen (RSA) and Brooks Koepka (USA) finished 2 shots behind Phil Mickelson (USA). In winning his sixth major aged 50 years 11 months 7 days, Mickelson became golf's oldest major championship winner. Previously that record had been held for 53 years by Julius Boros (USA), who, aged 48, won the 1968 PGA Championship. [The Ocean Course, Kiawah Island, SC].
Women’s (British) Open: the last women’s major championship of the season is hosted by Royal Porthcawl GC. It’s the first time this fabulous seaside links course has hosted the event (July 31-Aug 3).
Walker Cup: the 50th playing of this prestigious men’s amateur event sees the GB&I go head-to-head against the defending USA team at Cypress Point Club, California (Sept 6-7). After that, all eyes turn to Bethpage State Park on Long Island, NY, where the American and defending European professional teams engage in the 45th Ryder Cup (Sept 27-29).
Lottie Woad: 21-year-old Woad burst onto the professional scene in July, with wins in the Women’s Irish Open (as an amateur) and three weeks later in the Women’s Scottish Open (as a professional). She nearly picked-up a major championship, placing third in The Evian in the same month.
Pádraig Harrington: the ever-likeable Irishman added the (British) Senior Open Championship title to his stellar array of tournament successes. His win came on Sunningdale’s spectacular Old Course. Harrington had already bagged the U.S. Senior Open title in June this year.
