Played as the Sanyo Open (Oct 9-12). Second-placed Howard Clark (Eng) finished 3 shots behind José María Olazábal (Esp), who recorded his second European Tour win. [Real (Royal) GC El Prat, Terrassa, Barcelona]. This event was replaced on the 1987 European Tour schedule by the Barcelona Open, also at El Prat GC; however the 1987 event was cancelled due to a waterlogged course.

Played as the inaugural Sanyo Open (Oct 7-10). Second-placed Gary Cullen (Eng) finished 1 shot behind Neil Coles (Eng), who recorded the last of his seven European Tour wins; these wins came came on top of 22 victories on the European professional circuit, which preceded the European Tour. [Sant Cugat CG, Sant Cugat del Vallès, nr Barcelona].
Presidents Cup: Geoff Ogilvy’s International Team take on Brandt Snedeker’s USA Team at the revered Medinah Country Club, near Chicago. The Internationals are trying to halt a run of 11 consecutive American wins. (Sept 24-27).
French Open: Continental Europe’s oldest national championship, dating from 1906, is once again staged on the Albatros Course at Le Golf National, near Paris. Defending champion is America’s Michael Kim. (Sept 24-27).
Our visit last month included two rounds at Golf de Chantilly, one of France’s most prestigious clubs.

Here at Prince’s Golf Club you'll find 27 excellent holes of links golf. Just over the fence and sharing similar terrain is Royal St George’s; but Prince’s is far from overshadowed by its venerable neighbour.
