PGA Tour Champions
The World Champions Cup (scheduled for Dec 5-8; but cancelled due to effects of earlier hurricane damage in Florida). [The Concession GC, Bradenton, FL].
Format: USA vs Europe vs Internationals. Each team comprises six top PGA Tour Champions players (aged 50 and above), competing over three days in a total of 12 team-based matches.

The inaugural World Champions Cup (Dec 7-10). USA vs Europe vs Internationals. Each team comprises six top PGA Tour Champions players (aged 50 and above), competing over three days in a total of 12 team-based matches (6x Scotch Sixsomes, 6x Six Balls) and 12 singles. Players on the winning team received $100,000 each. [The Concession GC, Bradenton, FL].
1. Team USA (winners; 221 pts): Jim Furyk (playing captain, but didn't play due to injury); Billy Andrade (non-playing vice captain, but played as cover for injured Jim Furyk); Jerry Kelly, Justin Leonard, Brett Quigley, Steve Stricker & David Toms.
2. Team International (second; 219 pts): Ernie Els (RSA; playing captain); Stuart Appleby (Aus; non-playing vice captain); Steven Alker (NZ), Stephen Ames (Can), KJ Choi (S Kor), Retief Goosen (RSA) & Vijay Singh (Fiji).
3. Team Europe (third; 208 pts): Darren Clarke (N.Ire; playing captain); Jesper Parnevik (non-playing vice-captain); Alex Čejka (Ger), Miguel Ángel Jiménez (Esp), Robert Karlsson (Swe), Bernhard Langer (Ger) & Colin Montgomerie (Scot).
Women’s (British) Open: the last women’s major championship of the season is hosted by Royal Porthcawl GC. It’s the first time this fabulous seaside links course has hosted the event (July 31-Aug 3).
Walker Cup: the 50th playing of this prestigious men’s amateur event sees the GB&I go head-to-head against the defending USA team at Cypress Point Club, California (Sept 6-7). After that, all eyes turn to Bethpage State Park on Long Island, NY, where the American and defending European professional teams engage in the 45th Ryder Cup (Sept 27-29).
Lottie Woad: 21-year-old Woad burst onto the professional scene in July, with wins in the Women’s Irish Open (as an amateur) and three weeks later in the Women’s Scottish Open (as a professional). She nearly picked-up a major championship, placing third in The Evian in the same month.
Pádraig Harrington: the ever-likeable Irishman added the (British) Senior Open Championship title to his stellar array of tournament successes. His win came on Sunningdale’s spectacular Old Course. Harrington had already bagged the U.S. Senior Open title in June this year.
