4 miles SE of Southport (by ferry)
Access is via the Southport - Bald Head Island passenger ferry (no cars are allowed on the Island).
Travelling north from Myrtle Beach on US Hwy 17, you will cross the border into North Carolina. Continue on Hwy 17 for approx 22 miles. At traffic lights, turn right onto the 211 direction Southport / Bald Head Island. After 16 miles, in Southport, turn right onto W 9th Street, direction Bald Head Island. After 1 mile turn right into Indigo Plantation Drive and follow signs for ferry.
Cars must be left in one of four parking lots (A,B,C,D) and either walk or take shuttle bus to ferry. Golf Club will transport you to clubhouse on arrival on Bald Head Island. Ferries leave for the Island every hour on the hour.
Bald Head Island
Bald Head Island Golf Club: This wonderfully natural, island golf course, accessible only by passenger ferry, will delight lovers of golf's hidden gems. Most of the time during your round you will be tucked in between a lush array of palms, ancient oaks and other small trees and bushes, emerging occasionally for some slightly more open stretches near to the clubhouse.
If you want sea views you'll get those on the short 25-minute ferry ride out here, the 5-minute cart ride to and from the golf club, and any beach time you spend on BHI. Only at the par-3 16th tee, can you climb onto slightly higher ground for a fleeting chance to look onto the Atlantic Ocean. While on the golf course you'll be pleasantly occupied in a thoroughly natural and not overly manicured environment, taking on Bald Head's undoubted challenges.
At 6800 yards from the tips, and with a stiff sea breeze blowing, your A-game is going to be needed to score well. There are several quite tight drives to make onto the generally flattish fairways.
Bunkering is well-done around the greens, and water hazards come into play on the closing four holes of the front-nine and virtually every hole on the back-nine (a yardage guide will serve you well). You won't find a quieter or more natural layout anywhere on the North Carolina coast, its just a pity the sea doesn't play a bigger part in proceedings.
Limited access: this private course is generally playable only by members and registered guests staying on the Island.

The Club at Bald Head Island not only boasts its 18-hole championship golf course, but it also has three excellent croquet lawns. As a visitor, you will not be able to take your own vehicle onto the island - see How2Get There regarding transportation arrangements.
Women’s (British) Open: the last women’s major championship of the season is hosted by Royal Porthcawl GC. It’s the first time this fabulous seaside links course has hosted the event (July 31-Aug 3).
Walker Cup: the 50th playing of this prestigious men’s amateur event sees the GB&I go head-to-head against the defending USA team at Cypress Point Club, California (Sept 6-7).
After that, all eyes turn to Bethpage State Park on Long Island, NY, where the American and defending European professional teams engage in the 45th Ryder Cup (Sept 27-29).
Lottie Woad: 21-year-old Woad burst onto the professional scene in July, with wins in the Women’s Irish Open (as an amateur) and three weeks later in the Women’s Scottish Open (as a professional). She nearly picked-up a major championship, placing third in The Evian in the same month.
Pádraig Harrington: the ever-likeable Irishman added the (British) Senior Open Championship title to his stellar array of tournament successes. His win came on Sunningdale’s spectacular Old Course. Harrington had already bagged the U.S. Senior Open title in June this year.

Here at Prince’s Golf Club you'll find 27 excellent holes of links golf. Just over the fence and sharing similar terrain is Royal St George’s; but Prince’s is far from overshadowed by its venerable neighbour. The three nine-hole loops at Prince's, laid out over gently undulating terrain, are sure to bring a smile of satisfaction to all lovers of links golf.
