Luffness New
Luffness New Golf Club: next-door neighbour to the three golf courses of Gullane Golf Club, and straddling the A198 road into Gullane, Luffness New is an excellent quality links golf course. With one or two exceptions, notably heading uphill at the blind par-4 7th (Hill), and marching back down again at the wonderful par-4 8th (March), the course itself occupies relatively flat terrain at the foot of Gullane Hill.
The views onto the Firth of Forth may not be as spectacular as those of Gullane No.1, but there's plenty to enjoy and appreciate here on Luffness New. The understated simplicity of Old Tom Morris's classic links layout, combines springy fairway turf and wonderful greens, with a rash of small pot bunkers that have a habit of catching you out ( ... or "in" to more precise!).
With only one par-5 on each nine, at hole 4 (Long) and 14 (Aberlady), and not overly dense rough (most of the time), there's the chance to card a good score here at Luffness New ... assuming the weather is also in cooperative mood. The greens of the par-5 4th and par-4 12th are located close to the clubhouse, making it possible for members to play a number of permutations.
Pick of the holes: standing out from many enjoyable but relatively flat par-4s, the good-length par-4 8th (March) is played from an attractively elevated tee, then it's downhill all the way to the green.
Visitors welcome on weekdays & Sundays; no outside visitors on Saturdays.

Limited
In 1894 several members of the original Luffness Golf Club (the world's 35th oldest club, instituted in 1867) decided to split away and form the Luffness New Golf Club. Members of the new offshoot commissioned Old Tom Morris to create their course, which was located alongside and just east (inland) of the original Luffness course.
A few years after Luffness New was established, members of the original Luffness Golf Club also felt the need to move from the original course (which is now a nature reserve immediately to the west of Luffness New and Gullane Golf Clubs). In 1898 Luffness Golf Club re-located to its new home in Aberlady, on links land bordering Craigielaw Farm, adjacent to the ruins of the former Kilspindie Castle. In 1899 the members of Luffness Golf Club voted in favour of re-naming their club as Kilspindie Golf Club.
