Pelican Point
Pelican Point Golf & Country Club is located less than a mile from the Mississippi River, tucked in behind the Houmas House Plantation. The golf courses comprise 27-holes split between the championship Links layout and the nine-hole Lakes course. Previously boasting its own clubhouse, the relatively open, nicely mounded Lakes course is less house-lined than the Links.
The more challenging 18-hole Links course weaves its way around several small ponds and through the Pelican Point residential community. In a predominantly open environment, with housing often on both sides of each hole, the fairways are generally good-width and bordered by a generous band of not overly penal, mounded rough.
The flattish terrain leads you to excellent quality, large and significantly sloping greens, often defended by round, dish-shaped bunkers, both large and small. Staying out of the frequently threatening water hazards and excellent bunkering is key to scoring well.
Pick of the holes: contrasting with much of the course, the par-3 17th and gently-doglegging par-4 18th are played in a wonderfully natural, tree-lined setting.
Limited access: this private course is generally playable only by members and their invited guests.
Private club; guests may only play if hosted by a member.

A mile from Pelican Point, on the banks of the Mississippi, you can discover Houmas House Plantation, one of the South's oldest and most beautiful plantation estates. The mansion house, award-winning gardens, wine cellars, Latil's Landing Restaurant and Cafe Burnside are all open to the public.
The plantation's first owners were the indigenous Houmas Indians, who sold the land to Maurice Conway and Alexander Latil in the mid 1700s. The original French Provincial house that Latil erected is still situated directly behind the Mansion, known in its antebellum heyday as the "The Sugar Palace." In the late 1800s Houmas House was the largest sugar producer in the country, producing over 20 million pounds of sugar each year.
Sony Open in Hawaii: played at Waialae Country Club near Honolulu, the Sony Open takes over the spotlight from The Sentry as the PGA Tour’s calendar-year opening event (Jan 15-18). The Sentry (not being played in 2026) was formerly known as the Tournament of Champions, with a field typically restricted to golfers who won a PGA Tour event in the previous calendar year.
Dubai Desert Classic: the DP World Tour’s first Rolex Series event of 2026, is contested for the 37th time (Jan 22-25). First won by Englishman Mark James in 1989, it now boasts a four-time winner, Rory McIlroy. Played on the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis course, this once desert-surrounded course is the long-time flagship for Golf in Dubai.
Our visit last month included two rounds at Golf de Chantilly, one of France’s most prestigious clubs.
It offers two superb layouts: Le Vineuil, a five-star championship course with a rich history, and Longères, an excellent four-star course that provides a strong and enjoyable test.
The wider Paris region offers plenty more. Courses such as Fontainebleau, Golf de Saint-Germain, and several other top-rated layouts make this area one of Europe’s most rewarding golf destinations, offering a mix of woodland, heathland, and parkland designs.
The Dutch: "It's no' just a game", as they say in Scotland, and that's certainly true at The Dutch. With 5-star services throughout, a lavishly comfortable Loch Lomond-inspired clubhouse, and a superbly designed and presented golf course, one could not ask for more from this top-end private club.
