Wiesberger turned professional in 2006 after a successful amateur career, during which he claimed many of Austria's top amateur titles. He progressed onto the European Tour via Q-school in 2009, but returned to the Challenge Tour the following season, where he worked at his game and acquired the winning habit with two victories.
A return to Europe's top-flight tour in 2011 was followed in 2012 by a win in a co-sanctioned event in Asia (Ballantine's Championship). Three months later Wiesberger was again celebrating, this time a home win in the Lyoness Open (effectively the Austrian Open). In 2013 he edged Ernie Els by one shot to claim the Indonesian Masters, another European Tour co-sanctioned event in Asia.
In 2022, aged 36, Wiesberger was enticed onto Greg Norman's "rebel" LIV Golf series. Bankrolled by Saudi Arabia, this breakaway rival to the main international tours offered massive prize funds, guaranteed payouts and, for some, eye-watering signing-on bonuses.
