Did you know?

Two-time major championship winner Hubert Green, was born and brought up in Birmingham, Alabama, where his parents were members of the Country Club of Birmingham. Green distinguished himself as a top quality amateur golfer, becoming one of the top ten amateurs in the United States. Turning professional in 1969 he took a year to earn his playing rights on the PGA Tour, duly taking the tour's Rookie of the Year honours in 1971.

The 1970s and early-80s saw Green realise his potential as a professional, with 19 PGA Tour wins including two major championships. He also recorded two wins in Japan, an Irish Open title, and three Ryder Cup appearances. Green's unorthodox low quick swing served him well, as did his superb wedge play; he was renowned as one of the best wedge players of his generation.

During the 1977 US Open, Green's steely determination as a golfer was sorely put to the test. During the final round he was made aware that someone intended to shoot him dead when he reached the 15th green. He ignored the threat, and accompanied by a sizable police presence, went on to win the championship. He won his second major in 1985 at the age of 38, which proved to be the last of his 19 PGA Tour wins.

Traigh Golf Course (pronounced "try", and meaning "beach" in Gaelic): You'll find this nine-hole seaside gem on the scenic coast road (as opposed to the more inland and quicker A830) between Arisaig and Morar. Although not on the well-beaten path of Scotland's "trophy" courses, if you are passing through this area, it's a must play.
