Played as the Investec South African Open Championship (Feb 27-Mar 2; European-DP World/Sunshine Tours event). 27-year-old Dylan Naidoo (RSA) beat Laurie Canter (Eng) with a birdie at the first playoff hole (par-4 18th), to record his first European-DP World Tour win in his 30th start on the Tour. Due to heavy rain, event reduced to 54 holes (Thur, Fri, Sat) plus a final day playoff (Sun) just for the two leaders (Naidoo and Canter) after Round 3. [Durban CC, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa].
Note: during this event, Dale Whitnell (Eng) accomplished the rare feat of making two holes-in-one in the same round. In the second round, he aced the par-3 2nd, and aced again at the par-3 12th. Only three other players are thought to have done this in a top-level professional tournament: Bill Whedon (1955, Insurance City Open); Yusaku Miyazaro (2006, Reno Tahoe Open), and Brian Harman (2015, The Barclays).

Second-placed Jacques Kruyswijk (RSA) and George Coetzee (RSA) finished 1 shot behind Michael Hollick (RSA), who recorded his third Sunshine Tour win. Sony Open in Hawaii: played at Waialae Country Club near Honolulu, the Sony Open takes over the spotlight from The Sentry as the PGA Tour’s calendar-year opening event (Jan 15-18). The Sentry (not being played in 2026) was formerly known as the Tournament of Champions, with a field typically restricted to golfers who won a PGA Tour event in the previous calendar year.
Dubai Desert Classic: the DP World Tour’s first Rolex Series event of 2026, is contested for the 37th time (Jan 22-25). First won by Englishman Mark James in 1989, it now boasts a four-time winner, Rory McIlroy. Played on the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis course, this once desert-surrounded course is the long-time flagship for Golf in Dubai.
