Played as the Mercedes-Benz Championship (Sept 13-16; formerly Linde German Masters). Second-placed Phillip Archer (Eng) and Alastair Forsyth (Scot) finished 4 shots behind Hansen (Den), who recorded his second European Tour win. [GC Gut Lärchenhof, Pulheim, nr Cologne, Germany].

Murphy's
Played as Murphy's Irish Open (June 27-30). First-time European Tour winner Hansen (Den) beat Niclas Fasth (Swe) and Darren Fichardt (RSA) with a birdie at the fourth playoff hole. Richard Bland (Eng) was eliminated at the second playoff hole. [Fota Island GC, Cork, Ireland].
Presidents Cup: Geoff Ogilvy’s International Team take on Brandt Snedeker’s USA Team at the revered Medinah Country Club, near Chicago. The Internationals are trying to halt a run of 11 consecutive American wins. (Sept 24-27).
French Open: Continental Europe’s oldest national championship, dating from 1906, is once again staged on the Albatros Course at Le Golf National, near Paris. Defending champion is America’s Michael Kim. (Sept 24-27).
Our visit last month included two rounds at Golf de Chantilly, one of France’s most prestigious clubs.
