The son of an All-Ireland winning Gaelic footballer, Shane Lowry took the golfing world by storm in 2009 when he triumphed as a 22-year-old amateur, playing in his first ever European Tour event. Further European Tour and PGA Tour wins followed in 2012 and 2015,
Lowry's career moved into the highest echelons of golfing achievement in 2019. After winning the Abu Dhabi Championship in January of 2019, Lowry thrilled the home crowds with victory in The Open in July ... an Open Championship played for the first time in 68 years on the island of Ireland.

Played as the Zurich Classic of New Orleans (Apr 25-28; two-man team event: betterball rounds 1&3; alternate shot rounds 2&4). Rory McIlroy (N.Ire) & Shane Lowry (Ire) beat Chad Ramey (USA) & Martin Trainer (USA) with a par at the first playoff hole (par-5 18th). Played as the BMW PGA Championship (Sept 8-11). Second-placed Rory McIlroy (N.Ire) and Jon Rahm (Esp) finished 1 shot behind Shane Lowry (Ire), whose rounds of 66, 68 and 65 were bogey free. Tournament reduced to 54 holes after Friday's play was cancelled following the death of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday. [West course, Wentworth Club, Virginia Water, Surrey].
