Roll of Honour

MAJORS (1): Open Championship (2016). Ryder Cup player (2006, '08, '14, '16, '18). Olympic Silver Medal (2016, Rio). Multiple wins on the European and PGA Tours. FedEx Cup Champion (2013). Race to Dubai (European Order of Merit) winner (2013, '16).

Did you know?

After turning professional in 1998 aged 22, Stenson's career got off to an impressive start, topping the money rankings on the European Challenge Tour in 2000. He joined the main European Tour in 2001, and secured his first main tour win in that year.

By 2006 Stenson had risen to become one of the world's leading players, culminating in his inclusion in Europe's 2006 Ryder Cup team. It was his winning putt against Vaughn Taylor in the Sunday singles that ensured Europe won the coveted trophy for the third straight time.

From career highs of fifth in the world rankings in 2007 and fourth in 2009, a slump in form in 2010 and 2011 saw him eventually fall to 230th at the start of 2012. But the loss in form was temporary. In 2013 Stenson came roaring back to much greater career highs. This "dream year" included a second place at The Open Championship, and then sensationally he became the first ever player to win both the PGA Tour's coveted FedExCup (with its associated $10 million bonus), and the European Tour's Race to Dubai (with season earnings totalling over $4 million from the European Tour).

In 2016 Stenson added further to his already glittering CV with a second European Tour Order of Merit (Race to Dubai) title, and a record-breaking Open Championship win at Royal Troon. This was not only his first major championship title, but the first for a Swedish man.

Stenson enjoyed notable victories on the European Tour (11) and PGA Tour (6), as well as recording several other international tour wins. In 2022, aged 46, he was enticed onto Greg Norman's "rebel" LIV Golf series, alongside a few other well-known but mainly "ageing" golf stars, and an abundance of lower-ranked "unknowns". Appointed Ryder Cup captain for 2023, this prestigious honour was stripped from Stenson in July 2022 when he became an LIV golfer. (LIV Golf is a Saudi Arabian-bankrolled breakaway rival to the main international tours. It is based on limited-field 54-hole events, with massive prize funds, guaranteed payouts and, for some, eye-watering signing-on bonuses).
