Campbell's ethnicity is predominantly Māori, with some Scottish ancestry coming from his great-great-great grandfather, Sir John Logan Campbell, who emigrated from Scotland to New Zealand in 1840, and became known as "the father of Auckland". Michael Campbell is best known for winning the U.S. Open in 2005.
