De Vicenzo is one of the most successful South American golfers of all time, as well as a major champion and senior major champion. He developed his golfing skills while caddying in Buenos Aires, particularly at the Ranelagh Golf Club.
Turning professional in 1938, he claimed his first win on the Argentine Tour in 1942. He recorded the first of his nine Argentine Open victories in 1944, and went on to win over 130 more events in Argentina, over 60 elsewhere in South America, nine in Europe (including three French Opens) and nine PGA Tour victories. He represented Argentina 17 times in the Canada Cup (World Cup of Golf). In the event's inaugural year (1953) he and compatriot Antonio Cerda beat Canadians Bill Kerr and Stan Leonard in the final.
Among a myriad of wins around the world, the high point for De Vicenzo came at Royal Liverpool, where he won the Open Championship in 1967. A potential low point occured at the 1968 Masters, when he signed for a score one shot higher than it actually was. Having missed out on a playoff by one shot, he shrugged off the mistake, "What a stupid I am!"

Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda’s three-in-three, when he placed second at the Houston Open. This followed back-to-back wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players. Like Korda, he remains comfortably ahead in the official world golf rankings.
