Malaysia Best Golf Courses

Best golf courses in Malaysia

Like many Asian countries, golf in Malaysia has seen a huge recent explosion of interest in the last 30 years. The country can now boast well over 200 golf courses, many of them designed by the world's best golf course architects of the modern era. Jack Nicklaus, Robert Trent Jones II, Pete Dye, Peter Thomson, Ron Fream, Jumbo Ozaki and Graham Marsh have all created championship courses here.

Whether you are playing alongside lush, tropical rainforest or beside the South China Sea, you will be challenged, entertained and at times enthralled by all that Malaysian golf has to offer. With an abundance of excellent golf courses in most parts of the country, finding somewhere to play is generally not an issue, especially during weekdays. Green fees are generally lower in Malaysia than in many other Asian countries, not least Japan, Korea, China and Singapore.

Abundant wildlife on the golf courses, often includes monkeys and iguanas, neither of them harmful - as long as you don't try feeding them ! The use of caddies is not nearly as widespread as in neighbouring Thailand, which may suit golfers who prefer to take control of their own game and drive their own rental cart. Walking the course is permitted at many Malaysian courses.

The variety of cuisine in the clubhouses is wonderful - with Malay, Chinese and Indian dishes to the fore, and often Japanese and western dishes also widely available. Although the main religion here is Islam, alcoholic beverages are freely available - but the heat and humidity may steer you towards the excellent array of freshly squeezed fruit juices, or to the very popular teh-tarik (hot, sweet, frothy tea). Before eating the much revered Durian fruit, get someone to explain its side effects to you !
