Ryder Cup player (1993). European Tour wins (5) and multiple wins on the European Snr Tour. World Championship of Golf winner (1995).

Did you know?

Lane turned professional in 1976 aged 16, becoming an Assistant Professional at his local Downshire Golf Club, near Bracknell in Berkshire. During this time he won the PGA Assistants' Championship in 1983 and subsequently that year the World Assistants' Championship in Florida.

After one or two unsuccessful attempts at Q-School, Lane became a regular player on the European Tour from 1986, recording his first win in 1988 in the Scottish Open Championship. In addition to his total of five wins on the European Tour, he also won the first Andersen Consulting World Championship of Golf in 1995, collecting the then huge first-prize of $1,000,000. This event was a precursor to the WGC Accenture Match Play, first played in 1999.

After turning fifty, Lane enjoyed great success on the European Senior Tour. He chalked-up eight wins, and quietly cemented his reputation as an excellent ball-striker. Recognised as one of golf's most popular and amiable figures, Lane sadly passed away after a short illness aged 62.
