After graduating from the University of Illinois in 1990, Stricker turned professional in that same year. He initially played on the Canadian Pro Tour, joining the PGA Tour in 1994 and becoming one of its top players. His most successful season on the Tour came in 2009, when he won three times and finished second on the money-list.
Major championship success came to Stricker in 2019 when he won the Regions Tradition on the PGA Tour Champions. This was quickly followed by victories in the US Senior Open in the same year, in 2021 the Senior Players Championship, and in 2022 another Regions Tradition win. Back-to-back senior championship wins in 2023 gave him a total of six senior major championship titles.
Stricker was ranked as high as second on the Official World Golf Rankings.
